GREAT SALT LAKE – "AMERICA'S DEAD SEA"

Great Salt Lake – located in the US state of Utah

It is the largest salt water lake in the Western Hemisphere.

In terms of surface area, it is the largest lake in the United States that is not part of the Great Lakes region.

It has been called "America's Dead Sea" because it is endorheic (has no outlet besides evaporation), having very high salinity and mineral content.

Due to the high density resulting from its mineral content, swimming in the Great Salt Lake is similar to floating in Dead Sea.

BOYOMA FALLS

Boyoma Falls – formerly known as Stanley Falls.

Boyoma falls is a series of seven cataracts, extending over 100 km along a curve of the Lualaba River in Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The seven cataracts have a total drop of 200 ft. Beyond the last cataract the River Lualaba becomes the Congo River.

It forms the world's largest waterfall by volume of annual flow rate, exceeding both the Niagara Falls and the Iguazu Falls.

TAKLAMAKAN DESERT

Taklamakan occupies the central part of the Tarim Basin in the Uighur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang Province of northwestern China.

It is the world's second largest shifting sand desert with about 85% made up of shifting sand dunes.

Because it lies in the rain shadow of the Himalayas, Taklamakan has a cold desert climate.

➤ WEST BANK – landlocked territory claimed by Palestine.

➤ JERUSALEM – located on the border of Israel and West Bank – claimed by both Israel and Palestine, since 1967 under defacto Israeli control. On Dec 6, 2017 Donald Trump called Jerusalem the capital of Israel and began the process of moving US embassy there from Tel Aviv.

➤ GAZA STRIP – 41 km long and 10 km wide self governing Palestinian territory on Mediterranean coast.

➤ GOLAN HEIGHTS - Golan Heights is in Syria. However, the western two-thirds of this region is currently occupied by Israel, whereas the eastern one-third is controlled by Syria.

NEGEV DESERT (ISRAEL)

The Negev is a large semi-desert region in southern Israel.

Its main city is Be’er Sheva.

Inhabitants of Negev developed techniques of terracing and of conserving winter rains, which made the Negev a thriving agricultural area. It became an important granary of the Roman Empire.

SEA OF GALILEE (ISRAEL)

Sea of Galilee is situated in northeast Israel, between the Golan Heights and the Galilee region in the Jordan Rift Valley, the valley caused by the separation of the African and Arabian plates.

Consequently, the area is subject to earthquakes and volcanic activity in the past.

Sea of Galilee is also known as Lake Tiberias, Kinneret or Kinnereth.

It is the lowest freshwater lake on Earth and the second-lowest lake in the world (after the Dead Sea, a saltwater lake).

It is at levels between 215 m (705 ft) and 209 m (686 ft) below sea level.

Sea of Galilee is fed partly by underground springs but its main source is the Jordan River, which flows through it from north to south and exits the Sea at the Degania Dam.

BEQAA VALLEY (LEBANON)

Beqaa Valley, also transliterated as Bekaa, is a fertile valley in eastern Lebanon.

It is Lebanon's most important farming region + also one of the oldest wine-producing regions in the world.
