Newspapers/journals published by Mahatma Gandhi

➤ Indian Opinion - to fight racial discrimination and gain civil rights for the Indian community in South Africa. First issue was published in 1903.

➤ Navjivan - a weekly newspaper published by Mahatma Gandhi, in Gujarati, from 1919 to 1931.

➤ Young India - A weekly paper/ journal in English published by Mahatma Gandhi from 1919 to 1931. Gandhiji used Young India to spread his unique ideology and thoughts and wrote various quotations in this journal that inspired many.

➤ Harijan - a weekly newspaper, in English started in 1933 by Mahatma Gandhi. Harijan, which means "People of God", was Gandhi's term for the untouchables.

Books Written by Mahatma Gandhi – Hind Swaraj, My Experiments with Truth (Autobiography)

Aga Khan Palace served as the prison for Mahatma Gandhi and his close associates in Pune from Aug 1942 to May 1944, during the Quit India Movement.

He was lodged here along with his wife Kasturba, his secretary Mahadev Desai and Sarojini Naidu.

Gandhiji lost two of his closest people here – Both Kasturba Gandhi and Mahadev Desai died in the premises of Aga Khan Palace.

HINDUSTANI PRACHAR SABHA

Mahatma Gandhi founded the Hindustani Prachar Sabha in 1942 at Wardha in Maharashtra – to promote Hindustani, a link language between Hindi and Urdu.

Seva Sadan was founded by Behramji M. Malabari in 1908. Seva Sadan specialized in the care of socially discarded and exploited women of all castes, providing education, welfare and medical services.

Servants of the People Society (Lok Sevak Mandal) and All-India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) were founded by Lala Lajpat Rai.

Note : Servants of India Society was founded by Gopal Krishna Gokhale.

BELGAUM SESSION OF INC (1924)

The one and only Congress session presided over by Gandhiji was the Belgaum Session (1924).

His address covered Khadi-spinning and non-cooperation movement.

The venue of the 1924 session was named Vijayanagar (after the Vijayanagar empire).

MAHATMA GANDHI'S THEORY OF TRUSTEESHIP

Principle of Trusteeship is Gandhian philosophy of wealth management.

It reflected Mahatma Gandhi's efforts towards "spiritualizing economics".

He based his theory of trusteeship on the first sloka of Isopanisad, according to which one is asked to dedicate everything to God and then use it only to the required extent.
